Borris Community Playschool, Carlow
The Borris Community Playschool in Carlow took part in a much needed colourful transformation as part of the 2012 Dulux Let’s Colour Project. The projects leader Karen Rice won the hearts of the Dulux Let’s Colour Projects judging panel by demonstrating how colour would be used to enhance the lives and learning experience of the children in the school; “We plan to use colour creatively and to the best effect with some single colour walls, soothing colours, and bright murals that encourage discussion and creativity. Outside we will use bright colours on our play area to encourage active play and numeracy and literacy skills in a fun way.
The change it will make is three fold: Firstly It will bring a whole new excitement to staff, children and their families when coming to playschool. Secondly it will increase learning opportunities for the children. Finally, it will increase and foster community spirit as the parents will be involved in carrying out the revamp of the school.” The results of the transformation certainly delivered on its vision and it is clear that the children are happy with the results too!
